Family folk lore within my family is that the Sweets came north from Kent after one of our number was threatened with being burnt at the stake in the time of Queen Mary’s reign. As yet I have no proof of this!

The Sweet surname is most prevalent in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall particularly in the 1500s onwards.
