1881 census: she was visiting her brother James Robertson Sweet at 31 Scotia Street and was an annuitant
1901 census she was living with her housekeeper at 16 Manor Crescent, Inverkip, Renfrewshire. She was an annuitant and was born in Glasgow.

Barbara Sweet Visitor Female age 67 Married born in Paisley, Renfrewshire
Janet Marshall Servant Female age 35 Single General servant (domestic) worker born in Cathcart, Renfrewshire
For her to live to 101 as an annuitant, she must have had a reasonable wealth so was George (her father) a particularly successful wine merchant?
|Eric Birkett notes: |
"Miss Sweet" was the eldest sister of my grandfathers, she lived in Gourock during the early 1920s. Barbara and her brother John were taken by their mother and Aunt Mary to see her when she was nearly 100 years old, very frail and crotchety, bed- ridden, looked after by a house-keeper.
[PMS adds: Barbara's recollection may be confused: Alexander had three sisters that I know of. The eldest was Mary Wilson Dunn Sweet; the Aunt Mary referred to. The second sister was Catherine Robertson Fyffe Sweet who married Robert Grant and died in England. The third and last sister was Jean Barr Sweet, Barbara's mother. There is a Jean McCulloch Sweet who died at Inverkip, Gourock aged 101, she was single. Her death was reported by her second cousin, Mary Sweet. I think this is the Miss Sweet to whom Barabra referred.]
