George was 18 years and 9 months when he enlisted as a Motor Cyclist with the motor machine gun unit.
He was a bank clerk and was living with his father Robert Struther Sweet at Rockville, East Haven by Carnoustie.
By 1919 he was in the Tank Corp when he was demobilized.

George Sweet was born in Crossmyloof in Glasgow. He became a bank manager in the Royal Bank of Scotland. In his banking career he was manager at Maybole, Annan and Cowdenbeath. He was the accountant at Annan when he became treasurer of local Scottish League club Solway Star in 1925. He was then secretary/manager of Solway Star by 1937 when they lost 9-1 to Cowden in the Scottish Cup. Later, of course, George became manager of the Royal in Cowdenbeath and also became secretary/manager of Cowdenbeath FC between 1948 and 1951. He served on the Cowdenbeath board for a number of years before retiring to live at Longforgan.
