I cannot find a census return for the family after 1881 until 1901. So sometime between these dates they went out and back again. If Allsion is right and Jeannie returned when she was 21, then that would be around 1899.
The census record of 1901 however shows that Jessie aged 14 was born in Australia (along with her brother William and sister Catherine) and she was born in 1887. The last child, Ada, was born in Cathcart in 1897. So this narrows their Australian sojourn down to between 1886 and 1896, I would guess.
I have no proof of exactly when though.
Directories: I cannot find any entries in the telephone directories around 1881 or 1904-8, so cannot fix when the family left for Australia
