Notes

Valuations Rolls
1875 there is reference to Mrs Catherine Sweet as owner of 105A, 107, 109, coal ree 109. Note the reference above in the 1851 census to Catherine being "Landed Propietrix"; this would seem to be her properties. In the telephone directories for 1850 through to 1885 there is an entry for Sweets Court at 109 Great Hamilton Street. Looking at a census for 109 Great Hamilton Street, there are 118 people (about 30 families) registered as being in this property in 1871, I have seen that Great Hamilton Street isnow known as London Road.

Note that Mrs George Sweet is a tenant at 52 Rose Street VR/102/229/278, this is Catherine as in the 1885 roll Alexia is the tenant at the same address, so I am assuming that she lived with her widowed mother who died and Alexia took over the tenancy.
I have Catherine's will.

1871 census has Catherine Sweet aged 70, Proprietress (born Lanarkshire Glasgow ) and
Catherine Sweet Daughter aged 31 (difficult to tell as a pen through it) and
Alexia Sweet daughter aged 29
1841 Census:
Catherine is married to George and living in St Andrews Square.

By the 1851 Census George is dead and Catherine is living at 34 Kent Street
Catherine Sweet Head Widow aged 49 Occupation: Landed Proprietrix born in Lanark, Glasgow
Catherine Sweet Daughter unmarried aged 29 (difficult to read) House keeper born in Lanark, Glasgow
Alexia A Sweet Daughter unmarried aged 27 (difficult to read) Occupation at home born in Lanark, Glasgow
Anna Sweet Daughter unmarried aged 12 Occpuation Scholar at home born in Lanark, Glasgow
Andrew Son aged 8 Occupation: Scholar at home born in Lanark, Glasgow
Catherine McEwan Servant unmarried aged 26 Occupation: House Sevant domestic born in Ireland
James R Langdene (?) Visitor unmarried aged 22 Occupation Court clerk born in Huntly, Aberdeen

The 1861 census has an interesting twist as the entry for "head" is George Sweet aged 60. But George died in 1847. The age is first marked in the female column and changed to the male comumn. The totals of males and females at the foot have been changed accordingly, in a different hand I thinkā€¦perhaps an ajudicator assuming an error has been made with George. However, Catherine was being addressed as Mrs George Sweet and I guess that this is what she tried to convey to the enumerator. Additionally there are huge swings in the ages of the family, either through vanity or error.
