"My grandmother, Barbar Dunn Wright, who married Alexander Sweet in 1870, was a teacher in Newcastleton, Roxburghshire. She had a friend, Mis Robinson, also a teacher. Somehow, she was also a friend of my father's mother, Jane Gray (possibly also a teacher, Dundrennan area). When dad left home, to become an apprentice in Paisley, age 16, Miss Robinson suggested he should visit the Sweet family in Braehead, Cathcart, for company when he had free time. My dad went from Love Street, Paisley up to the Technical College, Glasgow, for evening classes in Engineering; that was how he met my mother.

Barbara's mother was Jean Barr Sweet.
