Ramshorn Glasgow city's oldest graveyard. In Georgian times the kirkyard in the centre of the Merchant City was the place to be buried. The richer merchants and their families paid more to be laid to rest in "paradise". The older burial ground was partially covered when Ingram Street became a thoroughfare and the present kirk was built in 1824. Most of the families obtained alternative lairs in the Crypt or in the new burial ground which extended to the rear of the kirk. |
